Artisphere presents Art in the Garden

Artisphere will be proudly presenting Waiheke Art in four of the gardens in this year’s Waiheke Garden Festival. We’re so happy to see this great event back after a year off in 2021 because of COVID-19. The 2022 Garden Festival will offer the public similar delights as previous years.

Artisphere has a great collection of artists that we work with who will have their artwork on display in the four art gardens. With a mix of outdoor art and a garden art tent at one of the gardens to display indoor art, there will be something for everyone. So far the list of artists includes: Fabric artist Paula Richa Artista, ceramicists Gail Barratt, Liz Harrop, Belinda Fabris, Steve Fabris, sculptor Kiya Nancarrow, painters Danielle Fillion, Kitty, Yolanda Whitehead, Peter Wichman, printmaker Svetlana Parmenter and artist Paulie Rhind. All artwork will be for sale and proceeds will benefit the Jassy Dean Trust.

A few highlights to look forward to: painter Peter Wichman has made a series of oil on canvas and watercolour paintings entitled, The Myth of the Green Man, a series about regrowth and renewal, a fitting theme for the spring garden festival. Belinda Fabris’ Colin and Glenda sculptures have been created as part of her social commentary around the global pandemic. Belinda says about these sculptures: “We all know laughter is the best medicine”. Belinda will have several more of her quirky characters on offer. Steve Fabris will bring back his ceramic red poppies that provide colour for the garden in every season. Liz Harrop creates ceramics that depict native New Zealand birdlife. Some of the birds are threatened by extinction due to global warming and the interference of humans. Liz’s work is a commentary on conservation and how we must work collectively to save these taonga. Ceramicist Gail Barratt will create a few outdoor pieces and sculptor Kiya Nancarrow always has interesting kinetic sculpture that contrasts well in most gardens.

Visit waihekegardenfestival.org.nz for more info. Tickets will be on sale at Fullers.co.nz and Paper Plus Waiheke in early August.
