Svetlana Parmenter majored in Painting at Unitec in 2000. Her interest in line and lino printmaking originated from introducing students to black and white lino prints early in her teaching career. Since then she has developed the reduction process to include as many as 14 colours in an individual print. Svetlana’s prints reveal an attraction to the figurative, strong outlines, bold colour and a desire to create a narrative within the composition. Her lino prints on Artisphere visually document some of the local Waiheke personalities: our friendly neighbours who may man the stalls at the Ostend Markets, inhabit a Putiki houseboat or busk outside local shops and cafes.

I feel that they are like jigsaw pieces integral to a new and different life, since moving to Waiheke Island. Ultimately, I view the prints as forming a visual autobiography, which is a reflection of our colourful community.” - Svetlana Parmenter
