Winner of the Digital Art Category - Joe Driver

Artisphere would like to congratulate Joe Driver for his winning digital submission 1 Moment submitted in the digital art category for the Waiheke Youth Art Awards 2021. To us, Joe's image captured something of a coming of age anxiety for island youth with its subject transitioning from lush vegetative textures towards the uncertainty of an unknown future.

The clear demarcation in the piece indicated by the single palm tree that intersects the subject seemed to represent the conflicting feelings many teens may experience at this transitional period in their lives as they move from the Island into the wider world. The piece seemed to capture the uncertainties that this may bring as they develop their own independent identities. Joe's digital construction demonstrated good understanding and control of how the digital medium could be used to tell a contemporary story that would resonate with his peers. Joe has received a $200 gift certificate from PB Tech and we hope to see more of his art over the coming years.
