Daisy Saaiman
Born in 1973 in Kroonstad, South Africa, Daisy studied Art at the Technicon of the Orange Free State, majoring in Print Making and Ceramics. Upon completion in 1997 she left South Africa for the UK and after many years of working and traveling around she finally moved to New Zealand in 2002.
Upon arrival she worked for an Interior Design Company, called “Artifications” specializing in trompe l’oeil murals and hand painted concrete floors. She worked on various commercial murals like Kelly Tarleton’s and also painted a lot of commissioned artwork for their interiors. This led to a whole other stage in her life where she started a family and knuckled down on getting that mortgage paid off.
However, no longer working in the creative sectors, she found that she had a real need to express herself creatively. So she started painting in oils and later acrylics at home and in her spare time.
Daisy and her family moved to Waiheke Island in 2013 and she decided to be part of the Waiheke Island Open studio weekend for the first time in 2014. Since then she’s had her studio “Daisyland” open to the public and exhibiting on the Island and at the Waiheke community Art Gallery throughout. Daisy has also done a couple of murals for the Waiheke Youth Voices and Timbuktu Deli in Ostend.
Finally in June of 2018 she resigned from her job in the city to pursue her dream of being a full time artist. She now operates as Daisylandnz out of The Ostend Gallery in Surfdale which she runs with fellow artist Ingrid Berzins. You can see more work by Daisyland on Instagram - @daisylandnz
